Plug-in solar is coming to NZ — and we're making it happen.
MyMiniSolar is a plug-and-play solar system for Kiwi renters, homeowners and small businesses. 2 to 4 solar panels. A microinverter. Plugs into a standard powerpoint. No electrician.

A recent Milestone:

In May 2026, the New Zealand Ministry for Regulation launched a formal review of plug-in solar — the first time plug-in systems have been explicitly included in NZ regulatory discussion. — Ministry for Regulation, Regulatory Review of Residential Solar, May 2026

Myminisolar is a plug & play solar power plant that produces electricity for your home the minute you plug it in.

The DIY kit consists of two or four solar panels, a microinverter, mounting rack and the required cables to connect it.

A smart phone app lets you track the performance of your solar system in real time.

Our mission started with a question: if over a million European homes are running plug-in solar safely, why can't Kiwis do the same? We've spent the past year working with WorkSafe, the Electricity Authority, and the Ministry for Regulation to fix that. In May 2026, the Ministry launched a formal review of plug-in solar in New Zealand. We're making it happen.

Our approach to solar energy is vastly different to other solar system retailers. My Mini Solar is prioritizing your households power needs over selling excess electricity back to the grid.

The current buy back rate is between 5 -17 cents per kWh, but the average cost for electricity in New Zealand is at 33 cents per kWh (2024). Myminisolar systems harvest the suns power and uses it directly to reduce your electricity bill.

A case study in Germany has saved a household 897kWh last year (2025) at 1765 average sunshine hours annually.

A New Zealand based home would save between 1000kWh in Auckland (2000 average sunshine hours annually) or in Nelson (2400 average sunshine hours annually) you would save up to 1200kWh per year. (Indicative based on case study) Meaning after about 4-5 years your Myminisolar system is producing free green power.

Your mini solar system is keeping the upfront investment low. We are aiming to start around NZD1500 for our smallest system. The system will take over the base load of your homes power consumption during the day. This would be your fridge/ freezer, Wi-Fi Router and stand-by appliances like your Smart TV and any other electrical consumers you are running. This daily load can be drastically increased by running your washing machine, dryer, crock pot etc. when the sun is out. Most appliances like your dishwasher have a "start-delay function, for when you are leaving the house before the sun is out. Should your appliances require more power than the solar system can produce, the excess gets taken from the grid. If you are a business, your mini solar system is powering your computers, servers and other machinery you are using during the day.
