My Mini Solar Ltd

Last updated: 21 September 2026

We're a small New Zealand business, and we take your privacy seriously. This policy explains, in plain English, what personal information we collect, why we collect it, how we look after it, and what your rights are.

We follow the Privacy Act 2020, including its Information Privacy Principles.

Who we are

My Mini Solar Ltd ("MyMiniSolar", "we", "us") runs the website myminisolar.co.nz. We are the business that collects and holds your personal information.

Postal address: 2075 Motueka valley Highway, Ngatimoti 7196, New Zealand, Email: info@myminisolar.co.nz

Our privacy officer

Privacy Officer: Gunnar Friese, Director and Founder

If you have any questions about your information or this policy, please email info@myminisolar.co.nz with "Privacy" in the subject line.

What we collect

When you join our waitlist or subscribe to updates, we collect:

  • your name

  • your email address

  • your New Zealand region

  • whether you own or rent your home

Your name, region, and whether you own or rent are optional. Your email address is the only information we need to add you to the waitlist or send you updates.

When you contact us by email, contact form, or social media, we collect your name, contact details, and whatever you choose to tell us. This includes messages and comments you send us directly through Facebook or Instagram.

When you create an account or leave a comment on our website, we collect the details you provide, such as your name, email address, and profile information.

When you visit our website, our website platform automatically collects some technical information, such as your browser type, device, pages visited, and approximate location based on your internet connection. See "Cookies and website analytics" below.

Information from other sources. Sometimes we receive personal information about you from someone other than you. For example, someone may give us your contact details because you asked them to have us follow up with you, or we may collect publicly available business contact details. When this happens, we will take the steps required by the Privacy Act to let you know, unless an exception applies.

Giving us your information is your choice

You don't have to give us any personal information to browse our website or read our blog.

We don't need to collect any of the information described in this policy for legal reasons. Giving it to us is voluntary. If we ever need to collect something because the law requires it, we will tell you at the time.

Here is what happens if you choose not to give us information:

  • No email address: we can't add you to the waitlist or send you updates.

  • No region, or no answer on owning or renting: you can still join the waitlist. These questions are optional, and we'd simply have less information to work with when planning our products.

  • No name: you can still join. Our emails just won't be personalised.

Nothing else on our website is affected either way.

Why we collect it

We use your information to:

  • send you updates about plug-in solar in New Zealand, including regulatory news

  • give you early access and launch information when plug-in solar becomes legal and our products are available

  • understand who is interested in plug-in solar and where, so we can plan our products and services

  • reply to your questions and messages

  • run and improve our website

  • keep our records accurate and meet our legal obligations

Why we ask about your region and whether you own or rent. This helps us understand demand across New Zealand and make sure our products work for renters as well as homeowners. It also helps us show government agencies and regulators how much interest there is in plug-in solar.

When we share demand information like this, publicly or with government agencies or regulators, we use aggregated information rather than information that identifies individual people. For example, we might say "700 people are on our waitlist, half of them renters."

We will only use your information for the purposes above, or for a directly related purpose, unless you agree otherwise or the law allows it.

Emails from us

You joined our list by choice, and you can leave at any time. Every email we send clearly identifies MyMiniSolar and includes a working unsubscribe link. You can also email info@myminisolar.co.nz and ask to be removed.

We keep our emails to things that are genuinely useful: regulatory progress, honest information about plug-in solar, and launch news.

Who we share it with

We never sell or rent your personal information. We only share it in the ways this policy describes, when you agree, or when the law allows or requires it.

We use these service providers to run our business:

  • Wix.com, which hosts our website, forms, subscriber list, and email newsletters

  • Microsoft, which provides our business email

These providers store and process information on servers that may be located outside New Zealand. They hold your information in order to provide these services to us, under their own privacy and data protection terms.

We may also share your information if the law requires it, or if it's needed to prevent a serious threat to someone's health or safety.

If our business changes hands. If MyMiniSolar is ever sold, merged, or transferred to new owners, your information may transfer with the business so the new owners can continue providing the same service. If that happens, we will tell you by email, and you'll be able to unsubscribe or ask us to delete your information before the transfer goes ahead, subject to any information we need to retain.

If we start selling products in future, we may need to share delivery details with courier companies and payment details with a payment provider. We will update this policy before that happens.

Cookies and website analytics

Our website uses cookies. These are small files stored in your browser that help the website work properly and help us understand how people use it, such as which pages are most popular.

These cookies are set by our website platform, Wix. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, although some parts of the website may not work as well.

We do not currently use advertising or tracking pixels. If that changes, we will update this policy first.

Social media

If you interact with us on Facebook or Instagram, those platforms collect information under their own privacy policies.

Anything you send us directly, such as messages or comments, is handled by us in line with this policy.

How we look after your information

We take reasonable steps to protect your information from loss, misuse, and unauthorised access. These include:

  • two-step login verification on our website and email accounts

  • limiting access to your information to the people who need it

  • not keeping copies of subscriber lists outside our secure systems

Before we use your information, we take reasonable steps to make sure it is accurate, up to date, complete, relevant, and not misleading.

Privacy breaches

A privacy breach is notifiable under the Privacy Act when personal information has been accessed, disclosed, altered, lost, or destroyed without authorisation, and it is reasonable to believe serious harm has occurred or is likely. If this happens, we will notify the Privacy Commissioner and the people affected, as the law requires.

How long we keep your information

We keep your information only while we have a legitimate reason to:

  • Waitlist and subscriber details: while you're subscribed and we're providing the updates you asked for. If you unsubscribe, we keep your email address on a limited "do not contact" list so we don't email you again by mistake.

  • Messages and enquiries: for as long as needed to deal with your enquiry and keep reasonable business records.

When we no longer need your information, we securely delete it or remove anything that identifies you.

Your rights

Under the Privacy Act, you have the right to:

  • ask whether we hold personal information about you

  • access the personal information we hold about you

  • ask us to correct information that is inaccurate, incomplete, or misleading

You can also ask us to delete your information. This is a service we offer rather than a general right under the Privacy Act. We'll generally do so where we no longer need the information for a legitimate business purpose or legal obligation.

We may retain limited information where necessary, such as your email address on our "do not contact" list. If we can't delete something you've asked us to delete, we'll tell you why.

How to make a request

Email info@myminisolar.co.nz with "Privacy request" in the subject line and tell us what you'd like.

You don't need to use a form or any special wording. We may need to confirm your identity before we provide personal information.

We will respond as soon as we can, and within 20 working days. In limited cases, the Privacy Act allows us to take longer. If we need to extend the timeframe, we'll tell you why and when you can expect an answer.

We don't charge for privacy access or correction requests.

If we can't give you what you've asked for

In some limited situations, the Privacy Act allows us to refuse a request to access your information, for example where releasing it would breach someone else's privacy.

If we refuse a request, we will tell you why and tell you that you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner about our decision.

If we decide not to correct your information, you can ask us to attach a statement recording the correction you requested, and we will do that.

Where we've shared the information with someone else, we'll let them know about the correction or statement where the law requires it.

Making a complaint

If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, please contact us first at info@myminisolar.co.nz and we will do our best to put it right.

If you're still not satisfied, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner:

Children

Our website and emails are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time, for example when we start selling products or introduce new services.

The latest version will always be on this page, with the date it was last updated. If we make a significant change, we will let our subscribers know by email.
